Annotation

Throughout his singing career Solomon Khromchenko paid particular attention to the chamber repertoire, where the voice itself is almost less important than the diction, intonation, each word and every nuance. His recitals were always tremendously popular no matter where they took place, be it on the capital stages, the factory workers’ clubs or in villages. His Russian chamber repertoire was very broad: along with the romances by Glinka and Dargomyzhsky, Taneiev and Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky and Rakhmaninov, he performed the miniatures by the so called “amateurs” – Bulakhov and Titov. Solomon Khromchenko was able to turn each of these works into a little masterpiece.
